Paint.NET is an image editor with powerful and advanced features. It is notable for being quick and easy to use - besides, it is totally free.
The user's interface has been redesigned in this new version, with the addition of new icons and a new improved visual style for Aero Glass (available only for Windows Vista / 7). Furthermore, new translations have been added.
The application lets you work with more than one image at a time, and for this reason, the overall memory usage has been greatly reduced, allowing you to work with images faster than in previous versions. Moreover, this time the program makes use of the package .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, which has notable upgrades built-in.
For image manipulation, the program includes some effects which are well categorized: artistic, distortion, blur, stylized, object, noise, photo, etc. However, there are thousands of effects that can be easily downloaded and added to the program, thereby enhancing the program's capabilities. In addition, 3 new effects have been incorporated to this new version.
A marked improvement is noticed in the font manager, which has been completely rewritten. In addition, in Windows 7 the text quality is improved through the use of DirectWrite, which is also available for Windows Vista users, if they have DirectX 11 installed on their PCs.
